About Armando Gonzales:
Armando’s parents were farm workers who settled in the Acuff area in Lubbock County in the 1940’s. Both of his parents were born in the Rio Grande Valley and worked following the crops to California. On the way home to Harlingen, their pick-up truck broke down in Plainview, Texas. The older siblings walked to Slaton where an uncle lived to get help. Instead of returning to the Valley, Armando’s father was hired by Canyon Gin and worked there for the next 45 years.

Armando went to Roosevelt High School and graduated in 1972. He received a partial football scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University, but decided instead to help his father in the family cotton trucking business they now owned. Armando worked on the farm and gin until marrying his wife Naida .While going to high school he obtained part time employment at KCAS Radio in Slaton and later worked at variou Spanish-language radio stations for many years. His radio work included working at the first Spanish-language radio station in Lubbock, KLFB 1420 AM in 1976.

After many years in radio, Armando joined Southwestern Public Service Company in Lubbock, Texas and worked with SPC for many years. He began in the meter reading department and worked his way up to the New Business Department.

His education includes receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish, English and Political Science from Texas Tech University. And in 2006, he earned a Master of Education Degree in Education from Tech.

Armando and Naida have made education a priority in their family. Naida and their son Chris both earned degrees from Texas Tech. Their youngest daughter is attending Texas Tech University now. Two of his children are now small business owners.
What others are saying about the
race for District 2:

"An East side resident, who spoke to El Editor but didn't want their name used, says they have not seen any meaningful representation from (Floyd) Price and say that they have been disappointed in his failure to go against other council members, and just settle for whatever other council members will give him..."
